Dale Hansen has not always been my favorite sports personality in Dallas-Fort Worth but his comments that sexual orientation does not determine a professional athlete’s talent or ability, are appropriate and commendable. I have the distinct honor to work in adjacent space to Hansen, we’ve never met or exchanged pleasantries but I will vey much look forward to shaking his hand and saying thanks. I’m not gay, just proud to be working with a real professional.

His comments were extremely cogent, particularly pointing out how the NFL seems less concerned with various criminal behavior or failing to cooperate with law authorities among players than it does with the potential of a openly gay player. Shame on those in the NFL holding such views.

Donte Stallworth also had a series of tweets tearing apart any argument that Sams’ status would have a negative impact on a team (the gist of it was if a team can’t handle whatever publicity may result from knowing in advance about Sams then it’s unlikely to be able to deal with all the other “adversity” that besets a team during the course of a year, and the team won’t be successful regardless, comparing how poorly the Miami Dolphins dealt with the revelations of player harassment this past season – finishing out of the playoffs, compared to how the NE Patriots dealt with all their adversity and lost in the AFC Championship game).
