Daniella Guzman Joins KNBC’s ‘Today in LA’

Daniella Guzman is joining NBC-owned KNBC Los Angeles (DMA 2) as co-anchor and general assignment reporter in June. Guzman will co-anchor the Today in LA morning newscast alongside Michael Brownlee. Today in LA airs weekdays from 4:30 to 7 a.m.

Guzman joins KNBC from co-owned WMAQ Chicago where she was anchor for the weekday morning newscast since 2012. For two years she covered a fast-moving blend of the latest breaking news stories and issues important to local residents.

Prior to WMAQ, Guzman was a weekend anchor and general assignment reporter at KPRC Houston. From 2004 to 2006, she worked at Telemundo affiliate KTMD Houston, and was at the Univision network in Miami earlier in her career. She has also worked in radio and print media.

Guzman graduated from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, where she holds a degree in bilingual journalism and communications.

All this anchor shuffling at KNBC is why they languish in 3rd place, behind KABC and KCBS. They have a good news product, but the lack of anchor continuity is harming them. Bring up someone who’s been in the market for a while, not another transplant from another market (like Lucy Noland from Houston, or the awful Alicia Lane from Philadelphia). For the newscasts Chuck and Colleen do not anchor, KNBC news can be hard to watch. There’s a reason KABC is #1. It’s called stability and continuity. This is something KNBC cannot claim, despite Chuck Henry and Colleen Williams.
