Denali Media Buys Three Alaska TVs

The cable system-owned buyer is adding CBS affiliates in Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan to the two stations in the state already in its portfolio.

Denali Media Holdings, a subsidiary of General Communication Inc. announced that it has agreed to purchase three CBS affiliates in Southeast Alaska — KXLJ-LD Juneau (DMA 207), KTNL Sitka and KUBD Ketchikan (DMA 211) —from Ketchikan TV of Evergreen, Colo. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Ketchikan TV is also the owner and operator of Anchorage’s KDMD-TV and Telemundo Alaska, Alaska’s only Spanish language television station.

Denali Media Holdings also owns CBS affiliate KTVA Anchorage and NBC affiliates KSCT-LP Sitka and KATH-LD Juneau. Its parent, GCI, is Alaska’s largest telecommunications company. GCI’s cable plant, which provides voice, video and broadband data services, passes 80% of Alaska households.

The purchase agreements are subject to customary closing conditions, including approvals from the FCC, with final approval anticipated in the second quarter of 2014, Denali Media said.
