Dish And Tribune Reach Retrans Deal

On Saturday, Tribune Broadcasting and Dish Network announced a long-term, comprehensive agreement on carriage and retransmission consent. The agreement restores Dish carriage of Tribune Broadcasting’s 42 television stations in 33 markets as well a Tribune’s WGN America cable network, all of which had been off the satellite service since June. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

    Retransmission consent fees are generally a small fraction of the overall subscription fees. Comcast is nice enough to include in its invoices a separate line item for retransmission consent fees. The total cost of subscription fees is high because of so many other factors, including fees paid to little viewed networks, and the high fees paid for various sports networks. Broadcast stations can only dream of the monthly fee ESPN receives from MVPD’s.
