Don Pratt Named VP-GM of WCBD Charleston

Media General taps the former GM of KBOI-KYUU Boise, Idaho, to lead its CBS affiliate in South Carolina.

Media General-owned CBS affiliate WCBD Charleston, S.C. (DMA 95), has named Don Pratt VP and general manager, effective Monday, April 21. He succeeds Rick Lipps who left the station in January.

This appointment marks a return to the Charleston market for Pratt, who was news director of WCSC, the CBS affiliate there, from 2001 to 2005.

Since July 2012, Pratt has been VP-GM of KBOI-KYUU Boise, Idaho, where he led the stations to their highest average local news ratings in five years. Prior to that, Pratt served for six years as news director of KATU Portland, Ore.

In his 24 years in the broadcast industry, he has worked at stations including WHDH Boston, WCSC Charleston and KGO San Francisco.

Pratt holds a master’s degree in mass communications from Emerson College and a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Syracuse University.

What is with all this bitterness toward people? I had a news share with Don in Charleston. He was fantastic and was put in a very difficult position at that station. I’m sure you have all the answers for Boise news or are you just a critic? Congrats Don!
