Donovan To Succeed Reilly As NYSBA Chief

David Donovan, who is counting down his last days as president of the Association for Maximum Service Television, will succeed the retiring Joe Reilly as president of the New York State Broadcasters Association. Last November Reilly announced that he was retiring effective June 30. Donovan was in need of a new job after MSTV agreed to merge into the NAB in March. For the new job, Donovan will be moving from Washington to Albany, N.Y.

The board of directors of the New York State Broadcasters Association (NYSBA), has selected David L. Donovan to serve as president and executive director. Donovan succeeds Joseph Reilly who is retiring after 31 years of service.

Dave Widmer, president-GM of the Long Island Radio Group, who headed the search team stated, “After an exhaustive search, we are delighted Mr. Donovan will serve as the next president of NYSBA. As a former FCC official and president of the Association for Maximum Service Television, he brings to Albany more than 25 years of broadcast regulatory expertise. He has the right combination of industry knowledge and executive trade association experience.”

Donovan said: “I am honored for the opportunity to serve the radio and television stations of New York. These stations have a distinguished record of serving their communities. Local service remains the key as we confront new competitive and regulatory challenges. I look forward to working with SVP President Richard Novick and the entire New York team and build on the solid foundation laid by Joe Reilly.”

Since 2001, Donovan has been president of MSTV, a technical trade association for the broadcast television industry and helped lead the transition from analog to digital transmission. From 1990 to 2001, he was VP of Legal and Legislative Affairs for the Association of Local Television Stations. He occupied a number of legal positions at the FCC from 1983 to 1989, and served as the media adviser to former FCC Commissioner James H. Quello.
