‘Dr. Oz’ Gets Refilled Through 2019

Distributor Sony Pictures Television announced this morning that Fox Television Stations have agreed to continue airing the syndicated health-and-fitness talk show through the 2018-19 season, which would be its 10th.

Dr. Oz is keeping his TV practice open at least three more years.

The show, featuring Dr. Mehmet Oz, debuted in the fall of 2009 and just wrapped up its seventh season.

Terms of the renewal not disclosed.

“The Fox Television Stations group has been our partners since launch and their commitment and support has been key to the long-term success of The Dr. Oz Show,” said John Weiser, president, U.S distribution, Sony Pictures Television.

The show’s Fox outlets: WNYW/WWOR New York, KTTV/KCOP Los Angeles, WFLD/WPWR Chicago, WTXF Philadelphia, KDFW/KDFI Dallas, KTVU/KICU San Francisco, WTTG Washington, KRIV/KTXH Houston, KSAZ/KUTP Phoenix, KMSP Minneapolis, WOFL/WRBW Orlando, WJZY Charlotte and KTBC Austin.

Together, they reach 32.4% of U.S. home and represent a big first step in renewing the show nationwide.

In the May 2016 sweep, Dr. Oz tied with CBS Television Distribution’s Rachael Ray among talk shows with a 1.4 household rating, up 8% from the May 2015 sweep.

With “refreshed production and a new focus on holistic wellness” this season, Sony said, the show experienced the greatest household growth of any talk show, posting double-digit increases on many of the Fox stations, including flagship WNYW in New York, where it is up 75% year-to-year in households and 28% sweep-to-sweep among women 25-54.
