Starting this evening, Cleveland native Drew Carey will be a regular part of WOIO Channel 19's newscasts. No, he won't be a reporter, anchor or commentator. Carey will be the signature voice for the Everywhere news segment that features short community stories from area towns and cities.

The Everywhere segment has been a 19 Action News staple since 2003. Several voices, including a whisper, have been used to set up these features over the last nine years. Most recently, the voiceover was provided by Kathy Applegate, wife of Channel 19's general manager, Bill Applegate.

Carey, 54, is in town this week to be the special guest star for Thursday night's PlayhouseSquare taping of the NPR quiz show "Wait Wait . . . Don't Tell Me." The 7:30 p.m. State Theatre event will feature the comedian in the the "Not My Job" segment. He'll be asked questions about a profession outside his realm of expertise.

Carey, a former United States Marine Reservist and Kent State University student, is the host of "The Price Is Right," the CBS game show that airs at 11 a.m. weekdays on Channel 19. He replaced Bob Barker as host in the fall of 2007.

He was the co-creator and star of "The Drew Carey Show" (1995-2004), an ABC sitcom set in Cleveland. During the long run of this sitcom, Carey also did double duty as the host of the improvisational comedy series "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"
