Emilio Romano Named To Lead Telemundo

The longtime TV and airline executive takes over from Don Browne who retired earlier this year. A one-time member of the board of Telemundo rival Univision, Romano's last executive post was as CEO of a Mexican airline.

Spanish-language TV and airline executive Emilio Romano will take over as president of Telemundo next month, succeeding Don Browne who retired last spring, parent NBCUniversal announced today.

As president, Romano will lead the Telemundo broadcast network and its 14 owned stations as well as the entertainment division and Telemundo Studios, a leading producer of original Spanish-language programming.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

During the late 1990s, Romano was GrupoTelevisa’s director of mergers and acquisitions and later VP of international operations.

From 1995 to 1998, he was a member of the board of directors of Univision Communications.

In 2001, he co-founded Border Group, LLC, and served as an advisor to several entertainment and media companies. He also served on the board of ClaxsonInteractive, a multimedia company providing branded entertainment content for both Spanish and Portuguese speakers. 

From  2004 to 2007 he was CEO for Grupo Mexicana de Aviacion where he was responsible for the airline’s largest financial restructuring in its 87-year history. During his tenure, he also organized the launch of the first low-cost carrier in Mexico, Click Mexicana, and engineered the sale of Mexicana de Aviacion to a Mexican investor group.

A native of Mexico City, Romano resides in Miami with his wife and two daughters.
