Emily Phillips New Hearst TV Managing Editor

The former deputy editor, mobile at Bloomberg will lead the TV station group’s digital teams to produce and distribute content on multiple digital platforms.

Emily (Banks) Phillips is joining Hearst Television’s digital team as managing editor, overseeing daily original content. The move is effective Oct. 16.

In the newly created position, she will lead central digital teams supporting the Hearst Television stations to produce and distribute content on multiple digital platforms.

Phillips previously served as deputy editor, mobile at Bloomberg LP, overseeing that company’s flagship news app.

Phillips, who will be based at Hearst Television’s New York City headquarters, is a Minnesota native.  Most recently, her work focused on mobile news experiences at Bloomberg and, previously, The Wall Street Journal, developing push-alert strategies, overseeing newsletters, building Apple News channels, and redesigning and launching news apps.

Prior to the Journal, she was managing editor at Mashable. Before moving to New York City, she was a reporter at newspapers in Georgia and Wisconsin.

“My journalism career started in local news, and I’m excited to get back in touch with that area, to find ways of piercing our bubbles and bringing the important, powerful stories of people from across the country to the forefront.” Phillips said.

Phillips earned her journalism degree from the University of Minnesota, where she served as the co-publisher and editor-in-chief of the student-run newspaper The Minnesota Daily
