FCC: No Punishment For Colbert Trump Joke

An FCC found that Stephen Colbert's risque joke about President Donald Trump.did not warrant punishment.

NEW YORK (AP) — There will be no fine for Stephen Colbert’s risque joke about President Donald Trump.

A Federal Communications Commission spokesman said Tuesday that the agency received “thousands” of complaints about the late-night host’s May 1 show, so it reviewed the material as “standard operating procedure.” It’s the FCC’s job to police obscene or indecent material on TV when it receives complaints.

The agency found that the joke, which involved Trump, Russian leader Vladimir Putin and a crude word for penis, did not warrant punishment.

Colbert’s politically-tinged “Late Show,” rife with Trump jokes, has become the most popular of the late-night circuit.

The same joke, altered for Hillary had she become President, might have produced a different response, maybe.

Doubtful. This was outside the ‘safe harbor’ timeframe and it was censored before air. Even if the subject was changed, the result would have been the same. Conservatives are so butthurt that the liberals are attacking their golden child they forget they did the same to Obama for eight years. But the only defense conservatives have is deflecting to Hillary.

Apparently you fail to realize his ratings have gone up.

But have you noticed the quality of guests has gone down, dramatically? Guests might be thinking twice about their appearance, given more kinder and gentler alternatives!

The statement shows what type of person Colbert is. I stopped watching when the 15-20 minute monologue turned into a diatribe. I also stopped Meyers for the same reason. And Corden and Kimmel are soon to be dropped by me if they don’t get back to general humor. I don’t like Conan, and now that I write this, I don’t know why I record him other than his political humor is minimal. As long as Fallon keeps the political humor down I will stay with him.

I knew that FCC wasn’t going to fine Colbert since it’s safe harbor. And those complaining didn’t even watched it they filed because they have to much time on there hands.
