Fox Affiliates Retain Washington Counsel

The affiliate group says the decision to hire Dow Lohnes became necessary to navigate the “sea change” in the “relationship between the Fox Network and its affiliates coupled with the paradigm shift in the industry.”

The Board of Governors of the Fox Affiliate Association announced today that the association has selected Dow Lohnes PLLC as its new Washington counsel. In this role, Dow Lohnes will advise the association on legal, regulatory and policy issues confronting Fox affiliates as well as issues related to the affiliates’ relationship with Fox.

“With the ever changing relationship between the Fox Network and its affiliates coupled with the paradigm shift in the industry, the board felt strongly that it needed legal representation to help navigate the sea change. We believe that Dow Lohnes provides the expertise to do just that,” said Brian Brady, president- CEO of Northwest Broadcasting and chairman of the Fox affiliate board.

“The future of the broadcast industry hinges on a meaningful relationship between the network and the affiliates so both can grow and prosper while remaining relevant to the viewer who has more choices today than ever before,” he added.

“The Fox affiliates have played a critical role in the success of the Fox Network, due in part to the strength of the Fox Affiliate Association,” said Kevin Latek, a partner in the law firm’s communications practice. “The association is now working hard to ensure that Fox affiliates continue to excel in today’s dynamic media marketplace. Our firm is honored to work with the association on the important issues — and opportunities — ahead.”

Kevin is the consummate professional and acknowledged by his peers to be one of the most experienced in FCC issues. The Fox affiliates have placed their trust in extremely capable hands, and I speak from personal experience. This is going to get very interesting, not too far down the road.
