Fox, DirecTV Reach Carriage Deal

Fox Networks and DirecTV announced Monday evening that they reached an agreement for DirecTV to continue carrying all Fox networks (including FX, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild, Speed, Fuel TV, Fox Soccer, Fox Soccer Plus and Fox Deportes), Fox’s regional sports networks, Fox Broadcasting, the Fox local stations, Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. The joint statement said: “We both know the past 10 days have been challenging, but we’re pleased that both sides could eventually come together to ensure our viewers continue to enjoy Fox programming.”

This is great news for DirecTV…the loss of subs would have it tens of thousands without the FOX family of networks, among the most important being the regional sports and FX nets. Once those subs were gone, they would stay gone…and become customers of Dish or even ATT U-Verse. (A few might even have gone “old school” and switched to cable). Bet the people manning the phones at DirecTV are getting a break from countless “I want to cancel” calls!
