Fox Jackson Trial App No. 1 On Apple Charts

With the manslaughter trial of Michael Jackson's doctor having begun just this morning, Fox's 99-cent app today ranked No. 1 among paid news apps on the Apple store. In addition to live coverage from the courtroom, the app provides daily highlights, expert analysis, commentary and timelines. The content is being produced by KTTV, the Fox O&O in Los Angeles.

Viewers glued to the Michael Jackson doctor trial will never be further from it than their phones, thanks to a Fox app designed specifically to stream the trial live on mobile devices.

The app, called Michael Jackson Doctor Trial, already has gained traction with Jackson fans.  With the trial having started just this morning, the 99-cent app today ranked No. 1 among paid news apps on the Apple store, says Jose Rios, Fox Television Stations’ VP, digital news applications.

The actual number of how many apps have been downloaded will not be available until tomorrow, he says.

“What you can do now is carry the courtroom with you,” Rios says.

The app, Rios says, is the only one of its kind that will provide live, continual coverage of the trial to mobile devices including iPhones, iPads and Android phones and tablets. The content is being produced by KTTV, the Fox O&O in Los Angeles.

Streaming also is available online.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

In addition to the live coverage from the courtroom, the app provides daily highlights, expert analysis, commentary and timelines.

Rios says the app is part of Fox’s foray into mobile applications. The station group also has a successful Hurricane tracking app, he says.
