Gage Returns In Sinclair’s ATSC 3.0 Effort

Former NAB CTO Kevin Gage has been named EVP of ONE Media, Sinclair Broadcast Group's joint venture that is developing technology it hopes will become the ATSC 3.0 next-gen TV transmission standard.

Kevin Gage, who stepped down as the chief technology officer at NAB last month, has quickly reemerged as executive vice president of ONE Media, the next-generation broadcast standard proponent backed by the Sinclair Broadcast Group, it was announced this morning.

“Kevin is a digital pioneer with a proven track record in developing industry-changing platforms,” ONE Media President Tommy Eng said. “He understands the vision and need for broadcast to evolve and how the development of a new flexible broadcast transmission standard can help our industry meet changing market needs and remain competitive.”

Prior to joining NAB as chief technology officer in 2011, Gage held senior digital development roles at Time Warner Inc. and NBC Universal. During that time, he played a key role in developing industry-changing platforms such as DVD and iTunes.

Sinclair is pushing One Media system in the ATSC 3.0 standards-setting process, believing it is the best system for broadcasting to smartphones and other mobile devices.

ONE Media is a joint venture of Sinclair and Eng’s Coherent Logix.
