Golden Mike Award Gala Moved To March 16

The Broadcasters Foundation of American has NAB President Gordon Smith and the trade group he heads to be honored at its black-tie fundraising gala in New York on March 16. “Gordon’s accomplishments for broadcasters are widely recognized,” says BFA Chairman Phil Lombardo. “But perhaps many are not aware of Gordon’s tireless efforts" on behalf of the BFA.

Gordon Smith and the NAB, the trade association that Smith leads as president and CEO, will be honored by the Broadcasters Foundation of America with the 2015 Golden Mike Award on Monday, March 16. It was announced earlier that the date would be Feb. 23.

The BFA made the change to accommodate the request from the National Alliance of State Broadcasting Associations, which had a conflict with the original date.

“The state associations play a significant leadership role for radio and TV stations across the country,” said Jim Thompson, president, Broadcasters Foundation of America. “I am delighted we were able to accommodate their request so that they can join us in honoring Gordon and the NAB.”

The black-tie fundraising gala will benefit the BFA’s mission of providing aid to broadcasters in need.

A former U.S. Senator, Smith has been at the helm of NAB since 2009.

“Gordon’s accomplishments for broadcasters are widely recognized across our profession,” said BFA Chairman Phil Lombardo. “But perhaps many are not aware of Gordon’s tireless efforts on behalf of the mission of the Broadcasters Foundation to help our colleagues in need.”

BRAND CONNECTIONS

BFA’s Thompson said that NAB has “always at the forefront” in advocating for broadcasters. “Their task is often daunting, yet they persevere, providing legislative guidance and educational programs to advance broadcast radio and television.

“The NAB has provided the Broadcasters Foundation with platforms to helps us generate awareness about our mission, and we are thankful for that support. With the 2015 Golden Mike Award, we recognize their contribution,” Thompson added.
