Greg Turner Heads Engineering At WCVB

Greg Turner today been named director of engineering for Hearst Television’s ABC affiliate WCVB Boston (DMA 9). His appointment is effective Monday, Oct. 2. Turner replaces Stefan Hadl who has been promoted to director of engineering, Eastern region, for Hearst Television.

“For almost 30 years, Greg has led broadcast engineering and technical operations for Hearst Television stations across the country, and he is one of the most highly respected engineers in the broadcasting industry,” said Bill Fine, WCVB president-GM. “We’re very fortunate to have Greg join Channel 5 and we know his expertise and dedication to excellence make him the perfect addition to the WCVB team.”

Turner’s career in the broadcast industry spans 28 years, and he’s worked in various engineering and operations roles. He joins WCVB from Hearst’s KCRA-KQCA duopoly in Sacramento, Calif., where he was director of engineering and operations overseeing all broadcast engineering and technical operations of the two television properties as well as their associated facilities and platforms. 

Before that, Turner was director of engineering for Hearst’s WDSU New Orleans. Before working at WDSU, Turner began his career at Hearst in the operations department at KOCO Oklahoma City, where he worked in a variety of positions, including master control, SNG/ENG truck operator, operations manager and assistant chief engineer.

Turner holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism from Langston University in Oklahoma. He has completed the Hearst Management Institute executive training program and the National Association of Broadcasters Executive Development Management training program.
