Imagine Communications Buys RGB Networks

The purchase will strengthen Imagine’s lineup of video playout and distribution solutions.

Imagine Communications today said it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of RGB Networks, a move designed to enhance the company’s TV Everywhere product portfolio. The financial details of the deal were not made available.

Based in Sunnyvale, Calif., RGB Networks offers products used for IP cloud-based video delivery, including CloudXtream, supporting ad insertion for multiscreen (AIM) and network DVR, Video Multiprocessing Gateway, VMG and the TransAct family of transcoding and encoding-related products.

RGB Network products will strengthen Imagine Communications lineup of video playout and distribution solutions, an Imagine Communications press announcement said.

“Our customers require video solutions that enable content to be delivered anywhere, anytime, and on any device,” added Charlie Vogt, CEO of Imagine Communications.

”The acquisition of RGB Networks, combined with our innovation in video playout and distribution, enables us to strategically navigate the convergence of IP, mobility, and the Internet, which has changed the way we consume entertainment and information,” Vogt said.

RGB Networks’ packaging products provide for something it calls “just in-time packaging,” which makes delivery of streaming media simpler.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

It allows media distributors to deliver video on demand, cloud DVR and TV Everywhere services without pre-packaging video assets in each of the available adaptive streaming formats, including Apple HTTP Live Streaming, HLS, Microsoft Smooth Streaming, MPEG DASH and Adobe HTTP Dynamic Streaming, HDS. That means less storage and network bandwidth is necessary.

RGB Networks also offers Dynamic Ad Insertion, DAI, technology designed for adaptive bit rate and virtualized data-center/cloud environments.
