Jarvis Keynotes NewsTECHForum On Dec. 16

The second day of the second annual NewsTECHForum conference from TVNewsCheck and Sports Video Group will feature Jeff Jarvis, noted digital media blogger, director of the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism at the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism and author of Geeks Bearing Gifts: Imagining New Futures for News.

Digital news media expert Jeff Jarvis will keynote Day 2 of the second annual NewsTECHForum co-presented by TVNewsCheck and the Sports Video Group.

Jarvis is director of the Tow-Knight Center for Entrepreneurial Journalism at the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism. His latest book is Geeks Bearing Gifts: Imagining New Futures for News, appears Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 9-9:30 a.m.

Until 2005, Jarvis was president and creative director of Advance.net, the online arm of Advance Publications. He also advises media companies, startups and foundations, and also writes the influential blog Buzzmachine.com.

“Jeff comes from print side of the news business, but just as the journalism business has evolved to adapt to the Internet, so has Jarvis,” said TVNewsCheck Editor Harry A. Jessell. “He’s become a national leader in the development of online news, blogging, the investigation of new business models for news, and the teaching of entrepreneurial journalism.”

Jarvis is also the author of the books What Would Google Do? and Public Parts: How Sharing in the Digital Age Improves the Way We Work and Live as well as the e-book Gutenberg the Geek.

Set for Dec. 15-16 at the New York Hilton in midtown Manhattan, NewsTECHForum will gather news, technology and news operations managers to talk about the challenges they face at the intersection of technology and news storytelling.

The opening day’s keynote is Sinclair Broadcast Group CEO David Smith, who will be interviewed by TVNewsCheck’s Jessell at 1 p.m. on Dec. 15.

Other NewsTECHForum sessions will address multiscreen news workflow, IT security for TV news, severe weather reporting, mobile newsgathering, next-gen ENG cameras, video-enabled drones and more.
