Jim Serra Named La. Broadcaster Of The Year

Jim Serra, VP-GM of Raycom Media’s NBC affiliate KPLC Lake Charles, La. (DMA 174), was named 2015 Broadcaster of the Year by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. Serra accepted the honor Wednesday, March 4, at the 2015 Louisiana Association of Broadcasters Prestige Awards in Baton Rouge, La.

The Prestige Awards are sponsored annually by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters to recognize outstanding achievements by radio and television broadcasters.

The Broadcaster of the Year award is given to a station owner or general manager who “provided significant contributions and service to the broadcast industry and displayed the most outstanding record of civic achievement and public service.”

Serra started at KPLC in 1975 in the news department. He left and returned in the early 1980s to work in sales. Serra was named vice president and general manager in 1990.

Serra is a member of the KPLC editorial board and is a regular contributor to the editorial series A Better Southwest Louisiana. In the series, Serra has tackled issues ranging from the controversial Common Core education standards, the economic expansion, the state budget deficit, politics, public safety and drug problems facing the area.
