Media General moves the veteran broadcast executive from head of its Mississippi stations in Jackson and Hattiesburg to run its CBS affiliate in Birmingham, Ala.

Media General’s CBS affiliate WIAT Birmingham, Ala. (DMA 45) today appointed Jimmy Cromwell vice president and general manager, effective immediately. He joins WIAT after serving in a similar capacity at Media General’s CBS affiliates WJTV Jackson, Miss., and WHLT Hattiesburg, Miss., since 2011.

He also helped design and implement a state-of-the-art news set and launched two CW digital channels.

Prior to his role as GM of WJTV, he was the station’s director of revenue from 2009 to 2011. Before that he held sales management positions at Birmingham’s WBMA and The Birmingham News, Atlanta’s WGCL and Jacksonville’s WJXX.

He is the chairman of the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters board of directors.
