Journal Communications Names Turner VP

Journal Communications on Tuesday named Debbie Turner, president-GM of the company’s CBS affiliate WTVF Nashville (DMA 29), was named a new vice president of the company at the annual meeting of shareholders on May 7.

“In just a short time, Debbie has become an integral part of the Journal leadership team, and we are very pleased that she has been elected by the Journal board of directors as our newest vice president,” said Steven J. Smith, Journal chairman-CEO. “Debbie brings exceptional local media expertise to our company and to her roles leading our NewsChannel 5 team in Nashville and working with our TV and radio stations in the Southeast.”

As president-GM of Journal’s News Channel 5 Network, Turner heads WTVF; NewsChannel 5+, a local news and information channel; and NewsChannel5.com.

Turner began her career as an auditor for Price Waterhouse. A CPA, she received her BBA degree from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. She joined Journal Communications with the company’s purchase of WTVF in December 2012.

Turner is a member of the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters, she also served on the CBS Affiliate Board (treasurer) and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
