KBSI,KFVS Extend News Sharing Arrangement

Sinclair Broadcast Group’s Fox affiliate KBSI Cape Girardeau, Mo. (DMA 81) has reached an agreement with Raycom Media’s KFVS to continue the 9 p.m. newscast on KBSI. Heartland News at Nine on KBSI provides local news, weather, and national coverage for the Cape Girardeau, MO.-Paducah, Ky.-Harrisburg, Ill., market and airs seven nights a week.

Heartland News at Nine on KBSI recently entered its fourth year on the air. The new agreement will continue the newscast through September 2016. KBSI GM Mike Smythe said: “This newscast is unique in the viewing area as it is the only one hour, primetime local news. This is an important element to the success of the newscast.”

Smythe added: “A primetime newscast in an early-to-rise, rural market like ours gives viewers the option to get local news and weather at a time when many need it. KFVS12 produces the finest news product in our market.  We are very happy that we will continue to provide news viewer’s the choice of a first-class 9 p.m. newscast during Fox 23’s prime time lineup.”

“We’re happy to continue our relationship with KBSI,” said Tim Ingram, KFVS VP-GM. “Heartland News is dedicated to being where the viewer needs us to be, whether on your phone, on your tablet, on your computer, or on a different television station at a non-traditional time. We’re proud to partner with KBSI to continue the service.”
