‘Kelly And Ryan’ Tops ‘Megyn Kelly’ On Day 2

The new hour of Today dipped to a 1.9/7 on day two of head-to-head competition against the syndicated veteran in metered markets.

Megyn Kelly Today fell 14% in the metered markets on day two, from its 2.2 rating/8 share opener to a 1.9/7 average on Tuesday, Sept. 26, and lost to the Live with Kelly and Ryan, which held steady day to day at a 2.2/8. The two shows were even on Monday.

The nationally syndicated Kelly and Ryan competes head-to-head with Megyn in the vast majority of the country’s 56 metered markets, including all of the largest cities.

In top market New York, Megyn (on WNBC) dropped 21%, from a 1.9/7 average on Monday to a 1.5/6 on Tuesday. Kelly and Ryan (on WABC) rose 4% over the same period, from a 2.3/8 to a 2.4/9, although the time period leader Tuesday in New York remained Hot Bench (on WCBS) with a 2.6/9.

The largest day-to-day top 10 market decline for Megyn was a 35% loss in Philadelphia, where Kelly and Ryan had more than triple Megyn’s rating on Tuesday. In that market, the country’s fourth largest, Megyn (on WCAU) slipped from a 1.7/6 to a 1.1/4, while Kelly and Ryan improved from a 3.2/11 to a 3.4/12 (on WPVI) and was the top-rated show in the time period by a wide margin.

Maybe it will take a while for Megyn to show her warm and caring side. 6 share at 9AM and a $17 million dollar salary may take a while to get a return on the investment.

I wonder how many NBC affiliates will eventually bail on Megyn in favor of another hour of local news or syndicated fare.
