DMA 52: PROVIDENCE, RI

Kelly Johnston Named WLNE News Director

She returns to the ABC affiliate that she joined in 1999 to lead its news operations.

Kelly Johnston today was named news director at ABC affiliate WLNE Providence, R.I. (DMA 52). She succeeds Nic Moye, who left the station yesterday to lead a newsroom in Oregon.

The announcement was made by Chris Tzianabos, the station’s VP-GM, who said: “Kelly had previously been a loyal member of the ABC6 family for over 14 years starting in 1999.

“She started first as a graphics producer, moved on to CG operator then she made the switch to news as a producer in 2005 when she was later promoted to senior producer.

“Kelly left ABC6 in late 2013 to be home with her young children. I am excited to welcome Kelly back to the family as news director and I am confident she will be successful in bringing fresh ideas and a continued competitive spirit to ABC6 News.”

Johnston is a native Rhode Islander and a graduate of Brown University in Providence.
