KEYC Taps Marvin Rhodes As GM

The TV veteran will lead United Communications’ CBS-Fox affiliate in Mankato, Minn.

United Communications Corp.-owned CBS-Fox affiliate KEYC Mankato, Minn. (DMA 198), has hired its fifth general manager since the station went on the air in 1960.

Marvin D. Rhodes, 58, will begin May 6. He succeeds Dennis Wahlstrom, who retired on March 31 after serving 25 years as GM.

Rhodes served in several broadcasting management roles prior to 2008, when he became administrator of personal income tax and compliance with the Oregon Department of Revenue, a position he left in 2012 when a new administration took office.

From 2006 to 2007, Rhodes was vice president of operations for TCT Network, a Christian programming group, where he had responsibility for television stations and a channel on DirecTV. From 2002 to 2006, he was VP of broadcasting in Chicago for Total Living Network, where he helped put in place a 65,000-square-foot high definition-capable broadcast center in Aurora, Illinois.  He also oversaw television stations in San Francisco, Las Vegas and Rockford, Ill.

From 1993 to 2002, Rhodes was program manager with station manager duties at KPTV Portland, Ore. Prior to that he served in management capacities at KTVL Medford, Ore., including a period as assistant general manager. In Medford he also served on-air in a variety of capacities including news, weather, and special programs host for parades and other community focused programming. For 28 years Rhodes was a host for the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.
