DMA 14: SEATTLE

KIRO Providing News To Amazon Echo Show

Video flash briefings will provide trending storylines, weather on Amazon platforms for customers across Western Washington.

Cox Media’s CBS affiliate KIRO Seattle (DMA 14) is working with Amazon to deliver video news content on the Echo Show, a new Alexa-powered touchscreen device that launched June 28.

Similar to the audio news updates already being provided on Alexa-enabled devices like the Amazon Echo and Amazon Fire TV, consumers will now have the opportunity to watch KIRO’s video news content on the new device’s seven-inch touchscreen display.

When customers ask Alexa for the news, they can receive a two-minute Video Flash Briefing featuring KIRO news anchors providing trending storylines and weather information.

KIRO says it was “the first station to use their anchor team to deliver news briefings on the Amazon Echo — which is being delivered to tens of thousands of customers daily — and is again one of the first to deliver video content via the new Echo Show.”

Alexa customers will need to update their settings in order to receive this new offering by:

  • Opening the Alexa app
  • Tapping “Settings” on the left navigation bar
  • Selecting the Amazon Flash Briefing and enabling KIRO 7
