KMIZ To Air Senatorial, Gubernatorial Debates

The JW Broadcasting ABC affiliate in Columbus, Mo., will air debates between Missouri gubernatorial candidates today at 9:30 a.m., followed by one featuring Senate candidates at 10:45.

JW Broadcasting’s ABC affiliate KMIZ Columbia-Jefferson City, Mo. (DMA 138), will broadcast the Missouri Press Association candidates’ debate from the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia, Mo, today from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

The debates are part of the MPA’s annual convention and will feature candidates for both Missouri governor and U.S. Senate.

The gubernatorial debate will begin at 9:30 a.m. and feature Gov. Jay Nixon (D), Dave Spence (R) and Jim Higgins (L). The U.S. Senate candidates’ forum is scheduled to start at 10:45 a.m. with Sen. Claire McCaskill (D), Rep. Todd Akin (R) and Jonathan Dine (L).

“Given the importance of these elections and the attention they have created, we are pleased to be able to bring them live to our viewers in Mid-Missouri”, said Gene Steinberg, VP-GM of KMIZ.

The debates will be moderated by David Lieb of the Associated Press and feature Bill Miller (Washington Missourian), Jeff Fox (Independence Examiner), Hilary Niles (MU School of Journalism), and Nassim Benchaabane (MU School of Journalism) as panelists. 

KMIZ will also rebroadcast the debates Sunday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m.
