KNSD Promotes Garcia To Primary Anchor

NBC O&O KNSD San Diego (DMA 28) today announced that Catherine Garcia will be its new primary evening anchor starting Monday, Dec. 5.   Garcia joined the station as the weekend anchor in 2003 and currently anchors NBC 7 San Diego News at Noon and NBC 7 San Diego News at 4 PM. In addition, her “San Diego Explained” stories can also be seen each weeknight at 6 p.m.

Garcia replaces Susan Taylor, who previously announced she is stepping down from the anchor desk on Dec. 2.

“Catherine is a strong journalist, a terrific writer and a wonderful person, with a passion for her job and her role in the San Diego community,” said Richard Kelley, KNSD president-GM.  “We are fortunate that Catherine is already on our team and are excited she agreed to take on this important role.”

Garcia received her bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism with a minor in Spanish from the University of Southern California.  Garcia came to San Diego from WFAA Dallas, where she worked as the morning and evening weekend anchor.  She also spent three years in Austin, Texas, as a morning anchor at KTBC and a year in El Paso at KTSM as an anchor/reporter.
