KOIN Welcomes Sports Anchor Back To Portland

Media General’s CBS affiliate KOIN Portland, Ore. (DMA 23), has hired a new sports anchor, David Solano, who will be the weekend sports anchor/reporter, appearing on the air Wednesday through Sunday nights. He will debut on the air Friday, Aug. 14.

Solano comes to Portland from WXYZ Detroit, where covered the Detroit Lions, the Detroit Tigers, the Detroit Red Wings, as well as Michigan and Michigan State sports. He covered the Tigers in the World Series and later the Red Wings hoisting of the Stanley Cup.

Solano grew up in Portland and began his broadcasting career as an intern at KOIN while attending Portland State University. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in communication studies before taking his first full-time sports anchor and reporting position at WMAZ Macon, Ga. From there, he reported and anchored sports at WZZM Grand Rapids, Mich., and later KIAH Houston.
