KRON Announces 10 P.M. Newscast

The hour-long KRON4 News at 10 debuts on May 16 and will be anchored by Pam Moore and a co-anchor to be named later.

Media General-owned MNT affiliate KRON San Francisco (DMA 6) will launch a one-hour newscast every night at 10 p.m., starting Monday, May 16.

“We are committed to being ‘The Bay Area’s News Station’ and providing this additional coverage is both an important and exciting opportunity,” said KRON VP-GM Ashley Messina. “Being on at 10 O’clock, when the appetite for local news is the greatest, is a natural evolution to our commitment.”

KRON will make room for the newscast by moving one hour of its MNT programming to latenight.

The KRON4 News at 10 will be anchored by Pam Moore who joined KRON in 1991.

KRON will be hiring additional staff for the newsroom as part of the 10 p.m. news expansion, as well as a new evening co-anchor to be named in the coming weeks.

Covering sports will be KRON Sports Anchor Gary Radnich.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Also on board is Brittney Shipp, who joined KRON as evening meteorologist in January.

In addition to the KRON4 News at 10, KRON will continue news at 11 p.m. with a 15-minute newscast summarizing the major news of the day. “We also want to serve our audience that prefers a late news following network prime,” said News Director Aaron Pero. “We know that 11 p.m. is getting late for most viewers and a quick recap would be a great alternative.”

Following the 11pm News, KRON will transition to entertainment news at 11:15 with the syndicated Inside Edition hosted by Debra Norville.

Good for them, but they have their work cut out for them. Most late newscasts in SF do minimal ratings.
