DMA 30: SALT LAKE CITY

KSL In Local Professional Soccer OTT Deal

Coverage of Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake club and others will be available digitally via the Salt Lake City NBC affiliate’s connected TV “Over-the-Top” app and its website.

The Real Salt Lake Major League Soccer franchise has partnered with Bonneville International’s NBC affiliate KSL Salt Lake City (DMA 30) to digitally deliver more than 200 hours of live professional games featuring RSL, Utah Royals FC and Real Monarchs via streaming to fans across Utah and surrounding communities.

The introduction of the multi-year digital streaming partnership delivers each live three-hour Real Salt Lake game window and two-hour Utah Royals FC and Real Monarchs contests, select RSL Academy home games, as well as weekly highlight, magazine and coach’s shows and other ancillary content to users’ phones, tablets and streaming devices via the “KSL TV” application and www.KSL.com.

“This is all about the fans, who can watch RSL on-the-go wherever they choose; people can now view in-stadium replays on their devices at both our venues thanks to our Red Sky wi-fi upgrades, and always be connected around the clock to our club, our players and our coaches, 24/7 from the palm of their hands,” said RSL Owner Dell Loy Hansen, noting that KSL.com’s pacesetting marketplace section will also serve as a primary ticketing outlet for RSL and Utah Royals FC games at Rio Tinto Stadium as well as Real Monarchs matches at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. “Technology is rapidly developing, and we believe that KSL TV has created a best-in-class app experience for both live and on-demand content, which will deepen our fans’ accessibility and connection across the globe.”

Live game streaming on KSL kicks off with Real Salt Lake’s 2018 MLS opener on Saturday, March 3, the Claret-and-Cobalt visiting Toyota Field in Frisco, Texas, to face Western conference rival FC Dallas at 5:30 p.m. MT.

“Aligning our two organizations is a perfect match,” said Tanya Vea, KSL VP-GM.  “When it comes to big thinking and innovative strategy, RSL and KSL are leading the way. Our users and viewers expect the best. KSL’s delivery of the latest and greatest sports entertainment and information to people’s hands — including those who use free streaming devices and are looking to keep pace with their busy lives — will ensure that they have instant and enhanced access to RSL.”

In the new partnership with KSL, RSL’s 33 regional livestream windows own a three-hour duration, including the club-produced 30-minute pre-game show as well as a half-hour post-game wrap-up.  In addition to each live game offering, every Tuesday throughout the 2018 season features an RSL on KSL magazine show titled OnFrame (starting with the debut on Feb. 27), as well as the weekly Mike Petke Show, hosted by Brian Dunseth.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Joining Dunseth each week in the KSL studio is the long-time radio/TV play-by-play voice of the club, Bill Riley from KALL-AM Salt Lake City, and RSL’s sideline reporter Rebecca Cade. Other personalities — including Utah Royals FC Head Coach Laura Harvey, Monarchs boss Mark Briggs, as well as players from all the club’s teams and around the world of soccer — will join the shows each week to explore the issues on and off the field affecting the sport in Utah and beyond.

As part of the agreement between Real Salt Lake’s three teams and KSL, the classifieds marketplace will be supported by an exclusive content vertical combining articles, features and multimedia assets from various Deseret Digital Media sources and the syndication of other club-related content.

KSL’s OTT and smartphone apps are available on iPhone, iPad, Android phones, Android tablets, Android TV, Chromecast, Apple TV (4th-Gen and above), Amazon Fire and Roku devices.

The KSL app supports both AirPlay and Chromecast or other Chromecast built-in devices. To download the apps, go here.
