KSNV To Debut One-Hour 3 P.M. News

The NBC affiliate is adding a new one-hour newscast beginning Aug. 19.

Intermountain West NBC affiliate KSNV Las Vegas (DMA 40) is expanding its news lineup with the addition News 3 Live at 3 starting Aug. 19.

This expansion follows an announcement earlier this year that KSNV was expanding its news operation by adding a Monday through Friday newscast at 7 p.m.

Veteran Las Vegas news anchor Jeff Gillan will anchor News 3 Live at 3. Gillan joins an on-air lineup that includes Jessica Moore and Jim Snyder, who will co-anchor the new 7 p.m. newscast; Marie Mortera and Gerard Ramalho will co-anchor News 3 Nightly at 6 p.m.; Mackenzie Warren and Reed Cowan will take over the 11 p.m. newscast anchor slots.

KSNV GM Lisa Howfield said: “We have not forgotten the fans of Days of Our Lives,” adding, “we have made arrangements with NBC and Sinclair Broadcast Group to broadcast Days of our Lives at its normal time 1 p.m. each day” on Sinclair’s CW affiliate KVCW.

Also on Aug. 19, The Doctors and Dr. Phil will move one hour earlier to 1 and 2 p.m. respectively.

Howfield added: “KSNV News 3 is further developing its partnership with NBC to incorporate the network’s expanded list of franchises into News 3 at 3 while maintaining a strong focus on local issues.”

Excellent. Another hour of mind numbing local “news” fill.

People bitch when stations cancel news and they bitch when they add, It’s very difficult to make everyone happy.
Isn’t it better for a station to support the local community by hiring employees, paying taxes, etc. rather than writing a check to a syndicator for a program that in all likelihood will be canceled.

The “Days Of Our Lives” fans will graviate to KCVW, and “The Doctors” will not get half the viewers on KSNV at 1 PM that they had at 2 PM.
