KTVX-KUCW Names Perret News Director

Veteran broadcaster Larry Perret will join the Newport-owned Salt Lake City ABC-CW duopoly on May 16.

Newport Television announced today that it has named Larry Perret news director  of its ABC-CW duopoly in Salt Lake City (DMA 32) effective May 16.

Perret’s background includes leading news operations in major markets across the country, developing news strategy at the Frank N. Magid Associates news research and consulting firm and as a news producer for Entertainment Tonight.

At Magid, Perret developed news strategy and tactical plans for his clients based on quantitative and qualitative research. Perret also conducted staff development workshops during station visits and advised on maximizing content delivery across all platforms.

Perret joined Magid from Fox O&O KCOP Los Angeles, where he developed an alternative news program format for the station that was awarded an Emmy for best newscast in 2000.

Prior to that Perret was news director for five years at KCBS Los Angeles. Under Perret’s direction, that station won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for best newscast in the country in addition to four Emmy awards for best newscast.

Perret has also been a news executive at KCAL Los Angeles, KNBC Los Angeles, WLS Chicago, WHDH Boston, KRON San Francisco, KPIX San Francisco, KMGH Denver, KSDK St. Louis and WFMY Greensboro, N.C.
