KVDA San Antonio To Launch Newscasts

Beginning May 21, Telenoticias San Antonio will air Monday through Friday at 5 and 10 p.m. in high definition.

NBC-owned Telemundo affiliate KVDA San Antonio, Texas (DMA 36), operated by ZGS Communications, will debut a revamped local newscast beginning Monday, May 21, at 5 p.m. from a new, state-of-the-art studio in the heart of San Antonio. In addition, there will also be a 10 p.m. broadcast.

Telenoticias San Antonio will “present local stories that are most relevant to Hispanic viewers and deliver the day’s news in an innovative and interactive format,” according to the station.

Both newscasts will be anchored by Esmeralda Medellín whose media career has spanned over 20 years and began in San Antonio. She has held reporter and anchor positions in Dallas and Chicago for both Univision and Telemundo.

The news team includes Jaime Becerril with sports, Lilian Perez with weather and entertainment, and reporters Ciro Villarreal, Mayde Gómez, Gerardo Moreno and Geraldine Ortega.

The evening news is produced by María Elena Cruz who started her career at Telemundo San Antonio and has worked as the promotions producer at WOAI San Antonio, and the editor-in-chief of the local Spanish-language newspaper La Prensa de San Antonio.

Telenoticias San Antonio is spearheaded by News Director Johnny Córdoba who most recently was assignment desk manager for the CBS-Fox duopoly KRQE-KASA Albuquerque, N.M., and was also executive producer of Univision’s KLUZ Albuquerque. His television experience includes 10 years with Univision Network as well as Telemundo, the Travel Channel and PBS.
