KVEA Los Angeles Beefs Up News Staff

Telemundo-owned KVEA Los Angeles (DMA 2) on Thursday named Enrique Chiabra co-anchor of its weekday morning newscasts, Noticiero Telemundo 52 a las 5 AM y 6 AM. Yara Lasanta will be KVEA’s new weather anchor for the station’s weekend newscasts, Noticiero Telemundo 52 a las 5:30 PM y 11 PM, and Julio Vaqueiro, who joined KVEA in 2013, is the new weekday evening news co-anchor for Noticiero Telemundo 52 a las 5:30 PM, 6 PM y 11 PM.

Vaqueiro’s time change is effective immediately and Chiabra and Lasanta will make their on-air debut in mid-to-late January 2016.

“We are committed to hiring the best journalists to help us deliver up-to-the minute breaking news and weather information to our viewers,” said Ruben Keoseyan, Vice President of News, Telemundo 52 Los Angeles. “Enrique and Julio are outstanding storytellers and I’m certain that Yara’s unique experience in forecasting complex weather events will help our viewers stay ahead of the news and make Noticiero Telemundo 52 become our viewers’ local newscast of choice.” 

Chiabra joins KVEA from KUVS Sacramento, Calif., where he has been a weekend news anchor since 2014. Prior to this, Chiabra worked at KVER Palm Springs, Calif., and KREN Reno, Nev. Chiabra, a native of Peru, earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from University of California, Los Angeles.

Lasanta joins KVEA from Telemundo sister station WKAQ San Juan, P.R., where she was a weekend weather anchor since 2014. Before joining WKAQ, Lasanta worked for TV Azteca and for Mega TV. Lasanta earned her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in Puerto Rico. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in meteorology.

Vaqueiro, joined KVEA in 2013 as the weekday morning news co-anchor for Noticiero Telemundo 52 a las 5 AM y 6 AM. He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from the Universidad de Anáhuac del Norte in Mexico City.
