KXRM Ups Joe Cole To Full-Time News Dir.

The Colorado Springs Fox affiliate is moving him from the anchor desk to leading the news operation.

Media General-owned Fox affiliate KXRM Colorado Springs has promoted Joe Cole to news director starting Oct. 28.

“Since we brought our news operation in house 10 years ago Joe has done a stellar job as both our lead anchor along with managing the news department. We are now engaged in producing 37 hours of local news a week; something had to give. Joe will be stepping away from the anchor desk tonight to focus full time on managing the Fox21 News Department. You will still see him from time to time working on features. Congratulations to Joe for a job well done,” said KXRM General Manger Steve Dant.

Cole performed news director and weeknight anchor duties for the station for more than 15 years. However, increases in both news staff and the amount of news produced each week have created the need for a full-time news director, the station said.

“While I will certainly miss certain aspects of anchoring the news, I’m ready for the next challenge and look forward to leading our staff in continued success here at Fox21,” Cole said.

He started his career in broadcasting as a reporter at KMPH Fresno, Calif. He then moved behind the anchor desk as a morning anchor in Medford, Ore., followed by a short stint at KRDO Colorado Springs.

On March 11, 2001, Cole anchored the first-ever broadcast of Fox21 News at Nine.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Cole is graduate of the University of Alabama where he received his degree in broadcasting and a double minor in psychology and speech communications.
