KYW Philadelphia Moving ‘Dr. Phil’ To 4 P.M.

The doctor will replace Oprah on the CBS O&O beginning May 26 and will be followed by an hour-long newscast.

Dr. Phil McGraw, whose career in talk was launched on The Oprah Winfrey Show, will move to the 4 p.m. timeslot in Philadelphia after Oprah broadcasts her last show at 4 p.m. on May 25.  Beginning May 26, Dr. Phil moves from 5 p.m. to 4 weekdays.

Eyewitness News at 4, anchored by Chris May and Susan Barnett, will shift to 5 p.m. as part of the programming change. This move will make Dr. Phil the only choice for talk at 4 p.m. in the market.

“Dr. Phil is the perfect choice for the time period since he is already familiar to Oprah viewers,” says KYW President-GM Jon Hitchcock. “At the same time, moving our local newscast to 5 p.m. gives CBS 3 a 90-minute local news block at a time when the largest audience of news viewers is available to see it.”

Dr. Phil has aired on KYW since its 2002 launch. The show also airs on sister station WPSG at 6 a.m. weekdays.
