KYW Ups John Wilson To VP-News Director

The Philadelphia CBS O&O promotes its assistant news director to oversee editorial operations at it and co-owned CW affiliate WPSG.

CBS O&O KYW Philadelphia (DMA 4) has promoted John Wilson from assistant news director to vice president and news director, it was announced today by Brien Kennedy, President and General Manager of the stations. He has been interim ND since Margaret Cronan left the station in July.

Wilson joined KYW as an executive producer in 2003. He was named assistant news director in 2009. In addition to helping KYW and co-owned CW affiliate WPSG grow audiences for their morning and evening newscasts, he has also been the primary strategist for the stations’ coverage of such major events as the Papal visit in 2015 and the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in 2016.

Wilson began his career as a reporter at KZTV Corpus Christi, Texas, before moving on to WAPT Jackson, Miss., as a newscast producer. He later produced and developed newscasts for stations in Knoxville, Tenn.; Seattle; and Orlando, Fla., before going to Philadelphia.

Wilson is a summa cum laude graduate of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. He has also studied at the Poynter Institute.
