John Lawson, executive director of the AWARN Alliance, will inform attendees at next week's TV2020: Monetizing the Future conference of the progress toward implementing an advanced emergency alerting system as part of the coming ATSC 3.0 broadcast standard.

John Lawson, executive director of the AWARN Alliance, will join a panel at TVNewsCheck’s TV2020: Monetizing the Future conference next week to provide an update on the alliance’s ongoing effort to implement an advanced emergency alerting system as part of the coming ATSC 3.0 broadcast platform.

The panel, which will primarily address the money-making opportunities of ATSC 3.0, also includes Mike Chapman, managing director of Accenture Strategy; Jerry Fritz, EVP for strategic and legal affairs of One Media; Mary Ann Halford of FTI Consulting; and Sandhi Kozsuch, chairman of the Pearl group and a senior director at Cox Media.

TV2020, held in conjunction with NAB Show New York, will take place next Wednesday (Oct. 18) at New York’s Javits Center. The ATSC 3.0 panel is slated to start at 2:15 p.m. and run for 45 minutes.

“We appreciate John’s agreeing to join the panel,” said TVNewsCheck Editor Harry A. Jessell. “Emergency alerting will be an integral part of  ATSC 3.0 and will likely be one of its initial killer apps.”

Lawson is also president of Convergence Services, Inc, a consulting firm focused on smart spectrum utilization and Next Generation Television (ATSC 3.0).

He has served as CEO of the Association of Public Television Stations, EVP of ION Media Networks and executive director of the Mobile500 Alliance.
