Lazarus ‘Confident’ In NBC License Renewals

NBC Chairman of Broadcasting and Sports Mark Lazarus said the network isn’t worried about its broadcast licenses facing revocation following President Trump’s threatening tweets. “We feel very confident … that the FCC will support the First Amendment,” he said.

NEW YORK – Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBC Broadcasting and Sports, said today he’s not worried about the network’s broadcast licenses being revoked in the wake of President Trump’s tweets threatening such action.

“We have every confidence that all of our licenses will be renewed,” Lazarus said at TVNewsCheck‘s TV2020 conference at the NAB New York Show here.

Lazarus said that NBC hasn’t had any conversations with the FCC about the potential action since the president’s tweets, and he wouldn’t comment on FCC Chairman Ajit Pai’s public response to the threat.

But Lazarus did defend NBC’s news organization. “We feel very confident in what our journalists do and that the FCC will support the First Amendment,” he said. “We have great confidence that what we do is vetted and right.”
