Leonardo Ruiz Named GM Of KUTH

The current sales chief for Univision’s Salt Lake City operations is bumped up to vice president and general manager, adding those responsibilities to his oversight of the company's Bakersfield, Calif., stations.

Univision Local Media today promoted Leonardo Ruiz to vice president and general manager of its KUTH Salt Lake City (DMA 34), effective immediately. In this new role, Ruiz will oversee all aspects of station operations including ad sales, marketing, news, production and promotions.

Reporting to Lee Davis, EVP, Univision Local Media, Ruiz will continue to oversee sales for KUTH. He will also remain general manager of Univision stations in Bakersfield, Calif: KABE (Univision), KBTF (UniMás) and KUVI (MNT), a position he’s held since 2013.

“Since joining Univision Bakersfield in 2013, Leonardo has played an integral role in elevating our stations in that market,” said Davis. “His industry experience and leadership in station operations and sales have been an asset to our teams and I have no doubt that with Leonardo as general manager, our station in Salt Lake City will be positioned for growth.”

Ruiz has held numerous positions at Univision since 2007. Before taking on the role as GM in Bakersfield, he was the national account manager for Univision’s stations in Los Angeles KMEX and KFTR.

He started as an account executive for Univision’s KSCA-FM Los Angeles before becoming the local sales manager for Univision’s Los Angeles radio stations in 2008. In 2010, Ruiz was named the retail direct manager for Univision Los Angeles media group, managing local sales for TV, radio and digital properties.

Prior to joining Univision, Ruiz was the director of marketing for Chivas USA (Major League Soccer) from 2005 to 2007.
