Live IP Production To Take Center Stage At EVS

The promises of IP in television include use of common off-the-shelf IT components that cost less than their SDI counterparts, fewer interconnectivity headaches and easier support for higher resolution television production.

At IBC 2015, EVS will demonstrate all of that and more in a live production environment, the company said at its press conference Thursday at the RAI Convention Center in Amsterdam.

During IBC, EVS will demonstrate new live its new live IP-based production capabilities in conjunction with Cisco.

The demo is designed to show off the new EVS XiP gateway providing in and out IP links to the company’s live video server for multi-feed live production. SMPTE 2022 uncompressed video will be transported between the Cisco stand (1.A71) and the EVS stand (8.B90) and use standard Cisco IP switchers and software defined networking.

EVS says the demonstration will emulate how the setup could be used in a live remote production application to enable workflows that would see camera shots transported as IP packets over great distances to a centralized production control center.

Of particular importance will be the low latency transport of high-quality video involved with the demo, which aims to show this type of remote workflow is possible.

EVS also announced that during IBC 2015 that it will demonstrate how its DYVI switcher will cut together 4K video signals originating at the Hitachi stand (11.D39) from the company’s SK-UHD4000 4K camera at the Gearhouse Broadcast stand (10.B39). The feed will be transported over a fiber optic connection.
