‘Live’ Takes Over The No. 1 Talker Slot
The first full week of the CBS station blackout on Time Warner Cable and the president’s press conference on government surveillance were drags on ratings in the week ending Aug. 11.
For example, several shows sank to their lowest ratings of the season, but there were some bright spots.

In daytime Live with Kelly and Michael jumped into first place among the talkers and surged 53% among from last year at this time when NBC carried the Olympics. Dr. Phil was up 20% from last year in second place with an all-repeat week.
Other top-tier chatfests moving higher included Maury and rookie champ Katie, which had talk’s biggest week-to-week improvement despite being all reruns. Another strong year-to-year gain was posted by Wendy Williams, which improved 22%.
At the top of the syndication chart, a repeat week of Judge Judy grew 9% from last year and was the highest-rated show in first run for the 15th consecutive session.
In tryout news, Kris averaged a 0.7 rating/2 share metered market average in the week of Aug. 12, which was the fifth of its six-week test on select Fox O&Os. The talk hopeful was down 13% in rating and down 1 share point from its Aug 2012 time period average.
