Local, Online, Public, Student Gracie Winners Set

Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) announced the 2011 local, online, public and student winners of the 36th Annual Gracie Awards. The awards will be presented at a luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Wednesday, May 25. AWM announced the national winners earlier this week.

The Gracies recognize exemplary programming created for women, by women and about women in all facets of electronic media, as well as individuals who have made contributions to the industry. The awards program also encourages the realistic and multifaceted portrayal of women in entertainment, news, features and other programs.

This year’s local, online public and student winners include KTLA Los Angeles’ The Baby Plan, George Washington University’s The Price of Convenience, The Tiziano Project’s multimedia journalism website 360 Kurdistan, Oregon Public Broadcasting’s The Ethics of Egg Donation  and WFUV-FM New York’s Gay Teen Runaways. “The power of this year’s Gracie Award winners showcase how vital a role women in the industry continue to have,” said 2011 AWM Chair Sylvia Strobel. “We look forward to honoring these deserving programs and individuals.”

“This year we recognize and amazing group of women who are changing the face of media,” said AWM President Erin M. Fuller. “Their accomplishments have set a higher standard for the quality of media we receive through television, radio, and online.”

The Gracies are presented by the AWM Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AWM which supports educational programs, charitable activities, public service campaigns and scholarships to benefit the public and women in the media. The Gracie Awards, established in 1975, honor programming and individuals of the highest caliber in all facets of radio, television, cable and web-based media, including news, drama, comedy, commercials, public service, documentary and sports.
