Louisville’s WDRB Slots New 6 P.M. Newscast

Beginning Monday, Sept. 14, Block Communications-owned Fox affiliate WDRB Louisville, Ky. (DMA 49), will add yet another half-hour of weeknight news to its Monday through Friday schedule with the debut of WDRB Local Evening News at 6. This expansion of WDRB News will increase the station’s local news product to a full nine hours each weekday.

The announcement was made this morning in conjunction with the ribbon-cutting ceremony held to commemorate the recent 11,000 square-foot expansion of the station’s downtown Louisville headquarters.

“Since adding a 6:30 p.m. newscast to our weeknight lineup a little over three years ago — and then following that with our 7 p.m. telecast that airs on our partner station, WBKI — we’ve felt the next natural area for expansion would be the 6 p.m. time slot,” said WDRB VP-Director of News Barry Fulmer.

In addition to the 6:30-7:30 slot, WDRB also offers an hour of local evening news from 4 to 5 each weekday.

Anchors for the new 6 PM telecast are expected to be announced by June.

“We’re pleased to be able to say that WDRB offers more local news than any of our market competitors,” said WDRB President-GM Bill Lamb, “but far more important to us than quantity is quality. We’ve been fortunate to be able to add a significant number of new journalists to our team over the past year, and this new 6 p.m. newscast will give us an even greater opportunity to showcase their talents.”
