Luana Munoz Joins WAVY’s ‘Hampton Roads Show’

Media General-owned NBC affiliate WAVY Norfolk, Va. (DMA 42) has added Luana Munoz as co-host of The Hampton Roads Show that airs weekdays at 11 a.m. Munoz is a veteran broadcaster who has worked in newsrooms in Washington, D.C., Missouri and California as a reporter, anchor and morning host.

Munoz was raised between the Bay Area and Miami. She is a graduate of UCLA where she majored in political science. Munoz is bilingual and feels it’s crucial in her reporting career. “It helps people open up to you, it’s helped me connect with people I may have otherwise been unable to reach,” said Munoz.

Munoz’s love for journalism, coupled with her ability to speak Spanish, helped her land a production assistant position at CNN Español in Washington where she worked alongside Wolf Blitzer. “I thought I wanted to work in print journalism, but I saw the fast deadlines of broadcast news, and it quickly helped me decide what I wanted to do.”

Soon, Munoz was a full-time reporter at KQTV St. Joseph, Mo., and then at KTXL Sacramento, Calif.
