Maria Barrs Named GM Of KXTV Sacramento

Gannett’s ABC affiliate today named Maria Barrs president and general manager. She joins the station from KDFW Dallas, where she spent 13 years, most recently as vice president and news director. She succeeds Anita Helt, who left in June to become VP-GM of KNXV Phoenix.

Barrs joined KDFW in June 1994 as managing editor. She became assistant news director in October 1996 and was promoted to news director in 1998.

Prior to that, Barrs was the news director at KSBW Salinas-Monterey, Calif. She began her career as a desk assistant at KCRA Sacramento, Calif.

Barrs received her degree in communications with a broadcast emphasis from California State University, Chico.
