Mark Higgins Named GM Of WSPA-WYCW

Media General taps the former GM of WTNH-WCTX New Haven, Conn., to run its CBS and CW affiliates in Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C.-Asheville, N.C.

Media General today appointed Mark Higgins president and general manager of its WSPA (CBS) and WYCW (CW) in Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C.-Asheville, N.C. (DMA 37). He begins on Oct. 17 and succeeds Bob Romine who left the station in January 2016.

Higgins, a veteran broadcaster with 35 years of experience, joins the duo after spending the last seven years as VP-GM of WTNH-WCTX New Haven, Conn.

Prior to that position, Higgins was chief operating officer of Spark, an advertising agency in Phoenix; president-GM of KTVK-KASW Phoenix; president-GM of WOFL Orlando and WOGX Gainesville, Fla.; and held several other station management positions.

“Mark brings a wealth of experience and a large market perspective to WSPA,” said Deb McDermott, Media General’s SVP-COO.

During his career, Higgins held a board position with the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University, served on the CBS Marketing Advisory Committee, was chairman of the Fox Affiliate Board and served on the ABC Affiliate Board.
