Mayor Resigns To Join WHP News Staff

Carlisle, Pa., Mayor Kirk Wilson will join the WHP Harrisburg, Pa. (DMA 41), news team as a reporter, effective Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Wilson, the mayor of Carlisle for the past 26 years, announced today that he is resigning as mayor in order to return to broadcast journalism and to the Newport Television-owned CBS affiliate in the Pennsylvania capital.

Wilson began his career working in local television and radio news.  As news director of WHYL-AM-FM Carlisle, he received numerous awards and recognitions from the Pennsylvania Associated Press. In 1978 Wilson joined WHP as a reporter where he covered many of the biggest news events to affect the Susquehanna Valley including the nuclear accident at Three Mile Island.

“We are proud to have Kirk return to the station as a reporter, combining over 30 years’ experience in local and state government together with his well-developed skills as a journalist,” said WHP News Director Craig Hume. “The addition of Kirk is part of the station’s renewed commitment to provide exclusive, in-depth coverage of important issues in central Pennsylvania.”

“Over the years, I have become knowledgeable in the operation of state government and local communities,” Wilson said.  “I believe this is invaluable in bringing the news to viewers in this region with new insight.”
